Chris Redman to Start for Atlanta Falcons

Tonight's NFL matchup between the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints is far from the showdown NFL executives expected when drawing up the schedule earlier this year.

Former Falcons QB Michael Vick was just sentenced to 23 months in prison earlier today.

In Vick's absence, the Falcons will start its 3rd quarterback of the year Chris Redman. Chris Redman was out of the league for 3 seasons and was actually selling insurance last year. Redman does have one advantage, he played for coach Bobby Petrino at Louisville.

"I feel real relaxed because he's calling plays," Chris Redman says. "Obviously, the system has changed a lot since we were at Louisville. But I still feel like it fits me well."

On the New Orleans Saints side, they too will be without one of their stars, running back Reggie Bush. Bush is out with a partially torn left knee ligament and could be out for the rest of the season.

Michael Vick Sentenced to 23 Months in Prison

Former Atlanta Falcons QB and NFL star Michael Vick was sentenced to 23 months in a federal prison on Monday for his role in a dog fighting ring. The sentence was just slightly less than the total amount of prison time Michael Vick faced.

According to the guidelines of the sentencing, Vick must serve at least 85% of his sentence, or 18 months. Seeing that he has already served 1 month of this 23 month sentence, Michael Vick could be out of prison by mid May of 2009.

Many will speculate whether Michael Vick could have avoided this prison term if he had not lied to federal prosecutors about his role in the dog fighting ring. At the very least, his sentence would have been signficantly reduced.

Has a professional athlete ever fell so far in such little time?

Michael Vick, once of the NFL's brightest stars, will now spend close to the next 2 years in a federal prison.

Kyle Orton to Get Another Shot

Another week, another new quarterback for the Chicago Bears. With Rex Grossman expected to miss the remainder of the NFL season, coach Lovie Smith has named Kyle Orton as next week's starting quarterback.

Kyle Orton started 15 games in his rookie year of 2005, but hasn't played since the season finale two years ago.

It is a bit surprising that Smith named Orton the starter over veteran Brian Griese, but he explained why as follows.

"Brian has done a lot of good things. We'll just try to see exactly what Kyle can do," Smith said, adding that Orton gave the Bears the best chance to win against the Vikings.

Whether Orton can provide the floundering Bears with a spark remains to be seen. On Monday night under the bright lights of the Metrodome, he'll get his shot once again.

Brock Berlin to Get 1st Start for Rams

After suffering a setback in his recovery from a concussion, Marc Bulger will sit out Sunday's game for St. Louis against Cincinnati.

This paves the way for Brock Berlin to get his first start. Berlin has not yet attempted a pass in a regular season game in the NFL.

The 26-year-old Brock Berlin was only recently activated from the practice squad on November 27th. The University of Miami graduate has spent time with both Miami and Dallas, along with the Hamburg Sea Devils in NFL Europe.

After practice, Brock Berlin stayed longer and threw passes to several of the Ram receivers. Afterwards in the locker room, star receiver Torry Holt spent a few mintues with Berlin at his locker.

"We were chatting just in case," Holt said. "We were going over some things; just trying to have some clarity. ... I thought he looked good in practice. Brock has a big arm. We'll see how it goes."

This is Brock Berlin's time to shine, so we'll see if he makes the most of it.

Greg Norman and Chris Evert

After the second round of the Merrill Lynch Shootout, Greg Norman professed his love for tennis great Chris Evert. Toward the end of the taping, Norman appeared on camera with Evert.

The two sports stars have been dating for years, but this was their first public appearance together in the United States.

"She's been phenomenal for me, to me in the last year and a half,'' Norman said. "It's just been tremendous. We've both known each other for a long period of time, since 1976-77. ... We both followed our respective careers all the way through and here we are. She's a very, very special person.''

"I always used to watch him and he always used to watch me,'' Evert said, "and then we finally got to know one another. We found a connection on every level. We do have that respect for each other as people, as well as professional people. We gel and we have a lot of fun together, too.''

Greg Norman has just recently finalized the divorce from Laura, his wife of 25 years. Norman said that he and Evert play tennis together four to five times a week. There was no mention of who wins, but we can all come to our own conclusion.

Mayweather Fight - Will it live up to the hype?

Later tonight in Las Vegas, Floyd Mayweather and Ricky Hatton will step into the ring for the WBC welterweight crown.

This is by far the biggest fight of Ricky Hatton's life, who is unbeaten in 43 fights. He will have a ton of supporters back in his home country of England where he had developed a huge following.

Hatton has never been under the spotlight like this before, so the question is, can he live up to the pressure?

For Mayweather on the other hand, this is nothing new. Having fought in numerous title fights against high profile boxers like Oscar De La Hoya, Mayweather will be unfazed by the pressure.

Bookmakers have made Hatton a 13-8 underdog, but that stopped a huge amount of money being wagered on his behalf. In fact, he is the heaviest backed British boxer ever.

So the question remains, will the Mayweather Hatton fight live up to the hype? We won't know the answer for hours, but all signs point to this one going the distance.
